Abstract

Constraint-based routing (CBR) requires a fast and accurate assessment of the different physical degradation effects in optical communications systems. This paper deals with fast analytical approximation formulas describing the induced system penalty due to the dominant nonlinear effects in 10-Gb/s nonreturn to zero (NRZ) transmission systems. This paper concentrates on the multichannel effects of cross-phase modulation (XPM) and four-wave mixing (FWM).
